Superman, Batman, the Avengers, this is what we think of when we talk about heroes.  But what is a hero?  We are told a hero is someone who makes a noble sacrifice for another person or people.  For example, a firefighter or a police officer at times.  I believe a hero is and can be anyone or everyone.  A hero, to me, is a person who does the right thing in a given situation.  Not only because it is the “right” thing to do but because he understands that he is capable and able to face the task at hand.  Being a hero is about having the awareness and confidence of a situation, then taking action.  A friend who comes in the time of need to provide support emotionally and physically is a hero.  A spouse who stands by their loved one during the most difficult times is a hero.  These people are heroes because they are aware of the situation and understand that they are capable of making the situation better.  A hero knows it is his responsibility, his obligation, his duty to always do what is best to make everything better.
